My Tearful Thoughts - I found myself struggling to conjure up an introduction to this. How could I put such a horrendous and traumatic topic into eloquent words? There isn’t a way. There is only the truth.
Today, on February 14th, 2018, all I can think about is the shooting that happened about ten miles from my house. As many of you have likely heard by now, a man by the name of Nikolas Cruz – at the young age of only nineteen – shot up Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
I just cannot get over how devastating this is. As a parent, there are many scenarios that cross your mind in regards to how my child could potentially be taken from me. Think about all of the places you tell your kids to “be careful” or “be responsible” prior to them leaving the house.
Then, think about what you say to your kids as they head off to school every single morning. I tell my son, “I love you. Have a good day.” I was under the impression that school was one of the safest places my child could be. Thus, it has never ever crossed my mind to tell them to “take cover” or “be careful or “watch your back.”
Parents. We want to protect our children at all costs. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this act. This act that came from a place of hate…there is no other place that could have instigated this catastrophe. I want to stress how import it is to love up on your kids. Hugging. Kissing. Loving. Show them love.
